Des Calins Dans Lens Cuisines (2004) is a short French animated film by Sébastien Laudenbach. In English it means “Cuddles in the Kitchen”. It’s about two ex-lovers, Lea and Stan, who have not been together for 3 months. And yet one day, Lea offers Stan to spend one last night together.
How did I know about this video? Well, the other day I watched 2 Days in Paris at Shangri-La Plaza during the Cine Europa Film Festival 2012. Before showing the film, this video was played — twice! (I don’t even know why). I can’t find videos of this in YouTube but I stumbled upon Aniboom. Only problem is, there is no subtitle. But I don’t think you need it for this one. Haha.
The ending of the film is weird. The guy lost his arm when he came back to his apartment. I searched what Sébastien was trying to show here. According to an interview by ARTE,
For me, one of the paris of the film was about the duality between body and feelings to talk about this when there may be a real complexity between the bodies are found, who know, who have lived together, who know how to touch, want, have fun … and feelings that are not always the appointment. And the film ends also by man of the couple returns home and realizes, after a night of love, he lost a piece of itself simply.
Ok, I’m not sure if Google translated it correctly. I don’t speak French (-_-) But you get the idea, right?
