Kris Aquino is one of the most in demand celebrities in the Philippines, appearing in a lot of billboards and television shows. “The Queen of all media”, as Kris is known for, has a stable career in the entertainment industry but now she is entering the business world.
Not just an endorser
It was revealed last September 2014 that Kris bought a franchise of Chowking, a Chinese fast food chain owned by Jollibee Foods Corporation. This is the 411th branch of Chowking, located at Ali Mall in Cubao, Quezon City and will open its doors this November 2014.
“I feel that if you’re going to endorse a brand, it should be something that’s both aspirational and reachable,” says Kris. “But it’s different if it’s about being a franchisee. One should invest on something they really trust and love. That’s what I felt when I chose to partner with Chowking. Not only do I really love their food, it’s a brand I’ve found that’s comforting and one I trust that can bring me more success.”
President of Chowking Ferns Yu said “It’s a rare opportunity to have your endorser as a franchisee. Perhaps there’s really a harmony between Kris and the brand.”
October 29, 2014 — The Empress’ Royal Banquet was held to officially welcome Kris Aquino as Chowking’s Brand Ambassador and its newest franchisee.
Kris shared her excitement and reasons behind this new venture. It all started when Boy Abunda got really sick and told her afterwards that they have to prepare. “Because ang puhunan natin, katawan natin. If we don’t show up for work, ang problema wala tayong sweldo. Kelangan talaga may mga negosyo tayo,” Boy said.
“Ayoko talaga na pangalan lang ang puhunan ko,” Kris shared. “I want to have success apart from entertainment. I have to become a negosyante.”
“This partnership says a lot about Chowking –it complements her taste and her appreciation towards good food; and given that we are a brand that continues to grow because of hard work, we find her as the best embodiment of our success,” said Ferns Yu.
So far, Kris Aquino is the first ever endorser who bought a franchise of the brand.
On shooting the commercial
Kris also mentioned that shooting the commercial for Chowking was no easy task. They had to retake the scene 72 times, which means she had to bite the chicken 72 times. “I swear I never spit kasi nasarapan talaga ako. Hindi ako naumay,” Kris admitted.
The next commercial shoot was the siopao and Kris mentioned that she never liked siopao. But when she tasted it, that’s when she realized she now loves siopao.
